FALL 2019–SPRING 2020

The curriculum provides professional training in classical ballet based on the Vaganova method. All classes are accompanied by accomplished pianists. Advancement is determined by the students’ progress in developing technical skills, strength, and artistry. Parental support is encouraged and welcomed.

CLASSES BEGIN SEPTEMBER 9, 2019

Semester 1: September 9, 2019 – February 1, 2020
Semester 2: February 3 – June 6, 2020

LEVELS 1 – 3 for ages 8-12

Level 1 Ballet
Ages 8-9

Mondays 6:00-7:30pm (Ballet technique)
Fridays 4:45-7:15pm
(Ballet technique and Repertory/Workshop)

Two lessons per week for the school year.

Introductory ballet technique according to a Vaganova-based curriculum, with a focus on developing movement vocabulary. In addition to technique, classes include repertory which allows time to create and rehearse choreography. Instructor: Leta Triebold

Annual Tuition: $1,734.00
Discount for cash or check $1,700.00. Bi-annual and monthly payment plans available.

What to wear:
Girls: Turquoise leotard (see Dancewear Order Form 2019-20), pink tights, pink ballet slippers. No skirts. Hair pulled neatly away from face and neck.
Boys: White fitted tee or athletic shirt, black tights or black shorts, white socks, black ballet slippers. Hair pulled neatly away from face and neck.


Level 2 Ballet
Ages 9-10

Tuesdays 5:00-6:30pm (Ballet technique)
Saturdays 12:00-3:15pm (Ballet technique, Repertory/Workshop and Modern)

Two lessons per week for the school year.

Continuation of ballet technique according to a Vaganova-based curriculum, with a focus on increased strength, stamina, flexibility, and coordination. Classes include modern which is essential in nurturing versatility and growth in creativity and repertory to create and rehearse choreography. Instructor: Rose Hartnett

Annual Tuition: $2,040.00
Discount for cash or check $2,000.00. Bi-annual and monthly payment plans available.

What to wear:
Girls: Purple leotard (see Dancewear Order Form 2019-20), pink tights, pink ballet slippers. Hair pulled neatly away from face and neck.
Boys: White fitted tee or athletic shirt, black tights or black shorts, white socks, black ballet slippers. Hair pulled neatly away from face and neck.


Level 3 Ballet
Ages 10-12

Mondays 5:00-6:30pm (Ballet technique)
Thursdays 5:00-7:30pm (Ballet technique and repertory)
Saturdays 12:30-3:15pm (Ballet technique and Modern)

Three lessons per week for the school year.

Continuation of ballet technique. Classes include modern which is is essential in nurturing versatility and growth in creativity and workshop which allows the appropriate time to introduce classical repertoire and rehearse choreography for performances. Instructors: Jill Lile and Christina Onusko

TUITION PAYMENTS:

Tuition payments are due before the start of classes for the year by September 5, 2019.

For convenience, tuition may be paid by semesters or monthly (please contact the Administrative Assistant at 651-690-1588).

  • 2 Semester payments: September 5, 2019 and February 1, 2020 by cash, check or credit card.
  • 8 Monthly payments: due on the same day each month. Arrange at registration.
  • NOTE: A 2% processing fee will be added to all credit card transactions.
  • \Entire tuition payment MUST be completed before the Spring Showcase in May 2020 for student to be able to participate in the performance.

Sibling discount: 5% on the lower tuition for Children’s Creative Dance program  |  10% on the lower tuition for Ballet Upper and Lower School programs

New Student Admission

New students ages 8-18: Please contact spb@spballet.org or call 651-690-1588 to arrange a placement class for the Upper or Lower School in the pre-professional division.
The class will include technique (Level 3) and pointe (Level 4-6), and will be observed by the teacher. Female dancers should wear a black or solid color leotard, pink footed tights, pink ballet slippers and pointe shoes, if applicable, and hair in a neat and firm bun in back middle of head. Male dancers should wear a fitted white tee shirt, black tights and black ballet slippers.

Performing

Performances:
A Nutcracker Story for all students enrolled full-time for the school year. Performances December 20-21, 2019 at The O’Shaughnessy in St. Paul. Casting is at the sole discretion of the directors.

Spring Showcase: A Celebration of Our Students for students enrolled full-time for the school year and students of the Dance Expressions I, II, & III. Performances May 2020.

Performance fees: This fee helps defray the costs for cleaning/repair/replacement of costumes in SPB’s inventory.
$40 fee due October 1, 2019 for students participating in A Nutcracker Story.
$40 fee due March 1, 2020 for students participating in the Spring Showcase.

We couldn’t do it without you! Parents/guardians of semester or full-term students have the option of volunteering a minimum of 4 hours per semester during performance production weeks or paying a fee of $100 per semester to hire additional staff for productions.

NOTE: Students continue in their same class and level unless the School Director recommends a change in level placement or they have formally withdrawn.
