For New Students to SPB ages 8-12 Families with dancers age 12 and younger, please contact Laura Greenwell lgreenwell@spballet.org to arrange a placement class for the pre-professional division.



Ready, Steady, Go! Age 4  One 45-minute lesson per week. Pick either Wednesday or Saturday for the semester.

This is a developmentally appropriate dance class for 4 year olds emphasizing movement and musicality. The young dancer will have fun with skills learned through rhyme and rhythm. Teaching Artist: Mary Coats.

Music & Movement Age 5 One 45-minute lesson per week. Pick either Wednesday or Saturday for the semester.

This is a developmentally appropriate dance class for 5 year olds, emphasizing movement and musicality. The young dancer will become excited to learn dance patterns while engaging in and learning a variety of dance skills. Teaching Artist: Mary Coats.

Dance Fundamentals Age 6 One 1-hour lesson per week. Pick either Wednesday or Saturday for the semester.

This is a developmentally appropriate dance class for 6 year olds. Dancers gain strength, flexibility, self confidence and are encouraged to create in collaboration with others. Teaching Artist: Mary Coats

Beginning Ballet Ages 7-8 (Must be age 7 by September 1, 2017) One lesson per week.

Introduction to the basics of ballet vocabulary and technique, traditional structure and etiquette of the ballet class, creative movement and repertoire. Teaching artist: Anna Roehr.

Level 1 Ballet Age 9+ (Must be age 9 by September 1, 2017) Two lessons per week.

Introductory ballet technique according to a Vaganova-based curriculum, with a focus on developing movement vocabulary. Classes include introduction to modern which is essential in nurturing versatility and growth in creativity and workshop which allows the appropriate time to prepare and rehearse choreography for performances.

Level 2 Ballet Age 10+ Two lessons per week.

Continuation of ballet technique according to a Vaganova-based curriculum, with a focus on increased strength, stamina, flexibility, and coordination. Classes include modern which is essential in nurturing versatility and growth in creativity and workshop which allows the appropriate time to prepare and rehearse choreography for performances. Teaching Artist: Maj-lis Jalkio

Boys’ Club (Ages 7-11) Intro to ballet conditioning, flexibility and technique particular to male dancers. Plenty of jumping and strength exercises taught by a male teacher.

Tuition payments:

Tuition payments are due before the start of classes for the year the first week of classes September 6-9, 2017.

For convenience, tuition may be paid by semesters or monthly (please contact the Administrative Assistant at 651-690-1588).

  • 2 Semester payments: September 6-9, 2017 and January 15, 2018 by cash, check or credit card.
  • 9 Monthly payments: due on the same day each month. Arrange at registration.
  • NOTE: A 2% processing fee will be added to all credit card transactions.
  • NOTE: Entire tuition MUST be paid before the Spring Showcase in May 2018 for student to be able to participate in the performance.

Sibling discount: 5% on the lower tuition for Children’s program  |  10% on the lower tuition for Pre-professional program

NOTE: Students continue in their same class and level unless the School Director recommends a change in level placement or they have formally withdrawn.

  1. Performance fee: In October 2017, a $40 fee will be assessed for students participating in the holiday show. In February of 2018, a $40 fee will be assessed for Beg.-Level 6 and a $25 fee for Young Dancers participating in the Spring Showcase. This fee helps defray the costs for cleaning/repair/replacement of costumes in SPB’s inventory.
  2. Volunteer requirement: Parents/guardians of semester or full-term students have the option of volunteering a minimum of 4 hours per semester during performance production weeks or paying a fee of $100 per semester.

Volunteer opportunities:  Help support the ballet through volunteering at performances and events. Sign up with the Administrative Assistant.

Performances:
Holiday performances of Clara’s Dream 2017 for students Levels Beginning Ballet-6 for students enrolled full-time in the SPB School. Performances Dec 1-3, 2017 at The O’Shaughnessy in St. Paul.

Spring Showcase: A Celebration of Our Students May 11-12, 2018 at the Macalester College Theater. Ample, free parking available. Tickets on sale in March 2018. This performance is for participation by all students.

SPB Clean for Class Pre-professional Program – Program currently full, please check back with us in January 2018

The Clean for Class Pre-professional Program at SPB School offers financial assistance to students 14+ who are interested in working in exchange for reduced tuition. Shifts are flexible Monday through Saturday. This program operates by using motivated and reliable participants to clean the studio mirrors, lobby, bathrooms, and dance floors in exchange for $8 of credit towards their tuition per hour worked. You may work a maximum of 4 hours a week. You must be able to keep a regular schedule of cleaning hours. We’d love for you to join our SPB family. To apply, please contact the studio:
