Student Dancer Production Manual
Spring Showcase 2014

Welcome dancers!

The experience of rehearsing and performing enables you to develop confidence and stage presence, which are essential to your training. As George Balanchine said, “It is not ballet if you do not perform.” Thank you for committing to this exciting production.

THEATER PROTOCOL

Young Dancers ages 4-6
report to the Macalester theater and enter by the lobby door for all rehearsals/performances.
Beginning Ballet and Level 1-3
dancers report to the Macalester theater and enter by the lobby door for all rehearsals/performances.
Levels 4 & 5 are called to arrive at the SPB Studio on Grand Ave for warm-up class.  They will walk as a group to the theater at Macalester after class.
All dancers must sign in with the volunteer every day.

SIGN OUT
All students (including Levels 4 & 5) must be picked up in the Macalester theater lobby after each rehearsal/performance.
All dancers must sign out before leaving every day!

FOOD
No eating when you are in costume or in the dressing rooms. You should bring your own snacks (and lunches when schedule dictates). Do not leave food where it may end up on any costume. Performers in costume may not drink even water without assistance from the Costume Crew. (Water can stain or ruin a costume.)

CELL PHONES
Cell phones must be set to silent or turned off during rehearsals on stage and before and during performances.

ILLNESS
In case of illness call Elise Werger (612-867-8047) as soon as possible.

BACKSTAGE
Absolute quiet is needed backstage. Close all doors slowly. No running or playing around. Please conduct yourself in a professional manner. NO TALKING! — you can be heard by the audience. Only staff and performers will be allowed in the wings and backstage areas during performances. NO PARENTS ARE ALLOWED BACKSTAGE unless you are a scheduled volunteer.

PERFORMERS
No performers are permitted into the house (the audience or the lobby) during performance time. After performances, change into street clothes before going out into the auditorium or lobby areas. We want to leave our audience with the magic!  Guests of dancers will not be permitted backstage so dancers should come to the lobby to greet them.

PHOTOS/VIDEOS
No flash photographs are allowed during rehearsals or performance. This is a safety issue! A startled or blinded performer could fall.
No videotaping or electronic imaging during rehearsals or performance. Copyright of this performance (including without limitation the artwork, photographs, images, music, and video) is owned by Saint Paul City Ballet.

3. Dancers must provide their own makeup (see Dancers Need To Provide), hair fasteners, makeup remover and tissues. Dancers need to wear deodorant. The costumes are NOT cleaned until all performances are complete!
