July 26-29

Contemporary Workshop with SPCB alum Claire Westby

Claire travels from New York City and stops in St. Paul on her way to Jacobs Pillow to perform with Liz Gerring Dance Company. In today’s dance landscape it is crucial that a dancer be versatile and able to flow between classical and contemporary dance genres. This class will present contemporary movement in an introductory way for dancers who are established in classical technique. Contemporary Class begins with a warm-up geared towards honing the mover’s subtle body awareness and balance of strength and mobility, with a focus on functional anatomical alignment. Building up to the fully articulate and centered body, we move into space concentrating on pathway of the body through space. The culmination of class will include a large scale combination geared towards sharpening the mover’s phrasing skills, decision making, and finding room to letting go, in order to find each dancer’s individual sensation and movement potential.

Thursday, July 26 10am-12:00pm
Friday, July 27 8:30 to 10:00am
Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29,  1:00 to 3:00pm
Cost $150  (Class cards may not be used).
Students enrolled in the July 23-27 Ballet Intensive may take the Saturday and/or Sunday Contemporary Workshop for an additional cost of only $30 each class.
