This is for the dancer who would like more rigor by attending twice a week. REGISTER NOW for 2x Week>
This class is for dancers 7-8+ years-old who are new to ballet, have not danced since a very young age or SPB Pre-Ballet dancers who are now age 7. It includes an introduction to the basics of ballet vocabulary and technique, structure and etiquette of the ballet class, and creative movement for individual expression. Two performance opportunities per school year: The Nutcracker Reimagined and Spring Showcase.
What to wear:
Short-sleeved leotard style in level color, tights and ballet slippers. Tights and slippers should match in color. Students should choose the color which is closest to their natural skin tone or the color in which they feel most comfortable.
Boys — White crew-neck short-sleeved top, bike shorts, plain thin white ankle socks, white ballet slippers.
St. Paul Ballet recommends Grand Jeté on Grand Avenue in St. Paul for tights and shoes.
Hair and jewelry: Hair pulled neatly away from face and neck. For the safety of the students, only simple stud earrings are permissible. Dangling earrings, necklaces and bracelets can come off while dancing and create a hazard on the floor. Leg warmers or other warm-up gear must be removed after class warmup exercise.

This is the first level of the full curriculum in ballet technique with a focus on teaching the basics of the movement vocabulary. In addition to technique, classes continue to develop creativity from the Elementary Level and introduce more exploration of choreography.

Level 2 ballet technique focuses on developing the movement vocabulary students have from Level 1 and introducing the new concepts appropriate to their age and development. In addition to technique, classes include creative workshop which builds toward the addition of modern in Level 3 and continuation of developing choreographic introduction.

Dancers at SPB experience the joy of moving to live music! Entry into the upper division of study is increasingly challenging. Classes keep dancers on the path of strengthening technique, cultivating versatility and growing in creativity. Repertory classes prepare students for stage with classical and modern repertoire and rehearsal for performances. Preparation for Pointe work begins. Instructors: SPB Faculty.

Level 4 study is increasingly rigorous. Classes include ballet, pointe and modern technique, keeping dancers on the path of strengthening skills, cultivating versatility and growing in creativity. Repertory classes prepare students for stage with classical and contemporary repertoire and rehearsal for performances. Optional Composition class allows growth in creativity where students explore the art of choreography.

Tuition Refund Policies
Programs 2026-27 for all ages: Tuition paid is non-refundable. This includes classes that are cancelled for any reason or mandatory closures due to state and/or local mandates.
If a student must withdraw from the program due to prolonged illness or severe injury that prohibits their participation, verified by a doctor’s certificate, Saint Paul Ballet will consider an account credit option for tuition paid at the time of withdrawal.

Performing
Performances:
The Nutcracker Reimagined is for all students enrolled full-time in the School-Year Division. Performances December. Casting is at the sole discretion of the directors.
Spring Showcase: A Celebration of Our Students for students enrolled full-time for the School-Year Division and the Children’s Division. Performances May.
Performance fees: This fee helps defray the costs for cleaning/repair/replacement of costumes in SPB’s inventory.
$40 fee due October 30th for students participating in Nutcracker.
$40 fee due March 30th for students participating in the Spring Showcase.
Volunteering:
We couldn’t do it without you! Over 100 parents, family members and friends of semester or full-term students are needed to volunteer during performance production weeks. From loading scenery, driving trucks and transporting costumes to sewing, chaperoning and distributing posters and flyers we have plenty of jobs to fit your busy schedules.
Summer Study
Call the school to schedule placement that is convenient for your schedule.
Summer Study offers serious students a healthy progression of continuous classes in classical ballet, modern and more with accomplished faculty, live accompaniment and acclaimed guest artists.
Summer study is designed to offer training that is more demanding than during the school year. You will have a chance to explore new styles while growing in your technique. Continued study through the summer gives you the chance to grow exponentially and prepare for the upcoming season.

If you do not feel well, please stay home.
ENTERING THE STUDIO
- Street shoes are to be stored in the cubbies outside of the studios. No street shoes on the studio floors.
- Bring your personal belongings into the studio. Please only bring the minimum items necessary for class—avoid large dance bags.
- Come dressed for class if possible. Bathrooms may be used for changing.
- Please use hand sanitizer or wash your hands before entering the studios.
